Since I started working for Global Grassroots five years ago, I have taught Breath-Body-Mind as an integral part of our training program to women and young women in Rwanda and Uganda. Global Grassroots is a non-profit organization that offers training Academies in post-conflict countries to grassroots women who have faced extreme hardship and most often, trauma, as well as a lack of equal access to education and/or resources. The Academy offers them a mix of skills and tools that, combined with newly acquired confidence, leads them to transform their communities in the ways they know will benefit everyone in the community. When these grassroots women put their own ideas into action, the results are shown in increased health benefits, children (especially girls) going back to school, an increase in literacy, a reduction in gender violence and early pregnancies, and much more. Inspiring transformation occurs. With Breath-Body-Mind taught in conjunction with other skills, these women most often get beyond trauma and continue on as recognized and respected leaders in their communities.

Global Grassroots, the NGO I work for, integrates BBM into its three-part curriculum: personal transformation, trauma healing (BBM) and social entrepreneurship, and specifically in post- conflict countries. As of 2018, we are working in Rwanda and Uganda. We plan to continue to teach this unique curriculum as we expand into more communities in these countries in 2019 and beyond.
